HISWA Innovation Award 2009: Winner

The TruDesign position-monitored ball valve range won the HISWA Innovation Award in 2009, chosen from 60 entries. HISWA is the Dutch marine industry association, which runs the HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show at RAI Amsterdam.

A seacock is normally checked by going to it. The Monitored Ball Valve carries a position sensor that reports whether it is open or closed, so a skipper can see every monitored seacock, such as engine cooling and generator intakes, from the helm or a control panel. Several valves can be watched on one Panel Display.

The same circuit can be wired as an engine or generator start interlock, so the engine won't start with its cooling-water valve closed. Today's Monitored Ball Valve comes in ½" to 2" in BSP and NPS threads, complies with ISO 9093:2021 (IMCI) and is type approved by Bureau Veritas (both excluding ½"), and meets the ABYC H-27 load test from 1" (with a Load Bearing Collar at 1").
